Mangoes
The world's favorite fruitCapeview Fresh Farm is located in Gumlu, one of the main mango production areas in Queensland. When combined with Northern Territory figures, they produce approximately 95% of the total national crop in Australia. The mango varieties grown by Capeview Fresh are Kensington Pride and B74 (Calypso), R2E2, Bowen and Kent. Capeview starts their mango harvest in late October (Queensland's dry tropical regions (Townsville / Burdekin / Bowen) harvest in mid-November) and sells most of their fruit to the main domestic markets with approximately 10% being exported to markets in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. |
Australian ProductionMangoes are juicy stone fruit from numerous species of tropical trees belonging to the flowering plant genus Mangifera, cultivated mostly for their edible fruit. According to a 2016 Australian Government report, the Australian Mango industry produces around 50,000 tonnes of fresh mangoes each season. Total volume of fruit marketed fluctuates from year to year, due to seasonal conditions and the irregular bearing nature of the crop. |
